The problem
The old site took eleven seconds to open a category page on a 4G phone, and it had fallen over on each of the previous two Eid sales.
What we did
- 01Pages rendered on the server and cached at the edge, so a product page is HTML before any script runs.
- 02Images converted and sized on upload, with the heaviest pages cut from 6 MB to under 700 KB.
- 03Checkout rewritten around the three payment methods that carried 94% of orders, and load-tested at ten times peak.
- 04A game-day rehearsal a fortnight before the sale, with the team watching the same dashboards they would use on the day.
The results
- Peak traffic handled
- 11×
- Largest Contentful Paint
